Here's the Tuk-Tuk story

The Tuk-Tuk story and how it came to Bridlington is about as unconventional as the vehicle itself. Tuk-Tuk Travel owner Scott tells us how it all started from the dream to the reality:

"I was searching a well known internet auction site looking for a replacement jet-ski after drowning mine at sea. After little success with my original find, I came across a Tuk-Tuk and then suddenly thought what a wonderful idea for a tourist attraction. I then decided to put my plan into action and eventually realise my dream of giving tours around the Bridlington area."

Two years passed and involved plenty of research and development into the project but the end result saw Scott purchasing a brand new six-seater Tuk-Tuk. The company, then called Tuk-Tuk Tours was born on May 5, 2007.

"We started running between two points on a fixed route from Leisure World on the North Beach through to the Royal Spa Theatre on the South side. Effectively we were the missing link between the two Land Trains that run on the North and South bays. Although business was good, we felt that we could offer more than just a link between the two. The Tuk-Tuk is unique to Bridlington so we wanted to carry that uniqueness through so a rethink was required."

And that rethink came in the form of Tuk-Tuk Travel, a flexible bus service running from any location to any location in and around Bridlington.

"I realised that there was a gap in the market for a flexible bus service here in Bridlington, so we relaunched on June 20, 2007 as Tuk-Tuk Travel with the strapline - your route, your choice - emphasising our new and unique service to the people of Bridlington whether they are tourists or locals."

This meant that Bridlington now has a bus service that is "on demand". The customer calls Tuk-Tuk Travel and the service is booked. The benefit over the bus is it can go where you want and the benefit over a private hire vehicle is you are charged by the person and not the journey. Bus prices for a taxi service!

"I'm delighted with the response from the people of Bridlington and hope that they continue to enjoy our unique service."
